Excellent article, Jeremy. I’ll believe it when I see it, but the first step to *any* kind of justice for the Palestinians has to be to stop the genocide and to get as much aid in as possible. If Trump gets to claim “victory” for it, fine. Whatever it takes to get tangible help to the civilians that remain has to be the number one priority.
When/if aid is able to flow freely (or more freely, anyway) I hope that Drop Site will help to highlight the most effective groups that readers can donate time and resources to.
They have taken further steps in recent days, and vacations are becoming a lot more difficult for IDF soldiers, worldwide. The Foundation can use our help. Please join me in making a contribution. https://buy.stripe.com/cN228hbY5g7jaM84gg
I just watched an interview with a founder and head of this organization on Glenn Greenwald's program. Really good work they are doing.
I support UNRWA with as much as I can afford. My brother died of cancer last year and I try to support cancer research. Also alternative left wing news sites and climate change activists who are being jailed for caring about life on earth.. There are a lot of serious threats to deal with these days. Pressuring govts with visits, letters and emails and going to rallies/protests helps. I'm sure there are many like me doing what we can with what we have.
Thank you for this potentially very good news. I pray for the bombing and destruction of the Palestinians/Gazans and also the West Bank) to end completely.
A couple of questions: As of 5 days ago Biden has been preparing with his left hand to send another $8 billion more in weapons to Israel, which does not sound very peaceful - does anyone know what has happened to that? Also it sounds like out of the approx.10,000 mostly uncharged Palestinian/Gazan hostages, doctors, women, children, mostly civilians (MSM have been told/taught to call them "prisoners" rather than the hostages they are) Israel has locked up in its torture dungeons, only a very small percentage are slated for release. It this okay with Hamas? And even as this is being negotiated, Israel has been bombing tents daily, killing and maiming countless Gazans (just like Lebanon).
What will prevent the 1st phase "temporary" ceasefire from easily being undermined. deliberately inflamed by even one Gazan child throwing a stone, or invading even more of the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria as you mentioned? And all the players would say they "tried." The history does not bode well. Are there any trustworthy negotiators working these "deals?" So far it's been con artists and we know the cruel Israelis (or Biden or Trump) have no consciences whatsoever. And where is there any mention of the history, and the OIL/Resources/weapons profits, land grabs, that the genocide and wars are all about? That's not gone away. There seems to be no bigger context framing this hurried before the inauguration ceasefire deal.
I profoundly hope for the Gazans that the "peace deal" will happen in any form and at least food, water, medical aid get in to Gaza as quickly as possible, but there are so many more questions to be asked.
I very much appreciate your printing the terms of what is being negotiated
When Israel pulled settlers out of Gaza -- anyone remember that? -- they proceeded to increase them in the West Bank. What do you wanna bet they'll do it again, and even more viciously?
Optimism on the Israeli US funded genocide front has to be a luxury for Palestinians. One thing obvious to all witnessing this crime enfold for more than a year, is that Biden never had any intention or interest in a ceasefire and fully supported the actions of Israel against the Palestinian people. The US is essentially a supporter of war crimes. It’s hard to believe Trump will be a peacemaker of this travesty considering his belligerent speech preceding his inauguration. But I for one would love to be surprised and amazed. Let it be.
I will weep with relief when this massacre stops and welcome any hopeful news in that direction. However, the credulity on display here is astounding. You really think this imminent ceasefire is due to Trump being 'tough' with the Israelis? You said yourself this deal has been on the table since at least August and as far back as May. Is it not obvious to you that Netanyahu was waiting out the US election? He knows he'll get everything he wants in the West Bank from a Trump admin. He could have signed this deal at any time in the last six months but he clearly didn't want to hand Biden et al a win. This is the most crass and evil type of politicking imaginable. Trump deserves not one iota of credit. We should all shudder that Netanyahu's preferred candidate won the US election.
None of this is to downplay the genuine good of a ceasefire. But this was achieved with the most murderous cynicism imaginable.
To be clear, this is not to excuse Biden and Blinken et al for being completely rolled by the Israelis and for refusing to use one iota of our considerable leverage to achieve a different outcome. They are all feckless fools and war criminals.
I think this is yet another round of "we were so close but Hamas tanked the deal" like Biden's admin has done. So, be ready for all hell breaking lose.
So very grateful to have Drop Site investigative reporting as a news resource instead of having to rely on polarizing, partisan-stooging mainstream media sources.
Like rain here in most of Colorado, or Trump draining DC swamp, I'll believe it when I see it.
From its founding words of freedom and democracy to the context of its slaves and zero women's rights, this country has held fast to one over-arching principle in all it does - having its cake and eating it too; hypocrisy. Trump will not change this, but he'll also have to work some to achieve a legacy worse than Genocide Joe.
And he may inadvertently, universe willing, do right things for peace even if for wrong reasons.
Biden didn’t do a thing, one way or another. Biden has been senile since the beginning, and these decisions have been being made by a cadre of unelected and unaccountable appointees, each with their own grift going, and very many who are dual nationals. We have now been enjoying government by corporate and lobbyist coup. That, after having been shown to be senile on live TV past the point of deniability (finally!) under US law, he should have been replaced. The men and women who kept Biden’s cognitive condition a secret should face investigation and punishment for what is essentially a crime against the American people.

Thanks for the great work!
The Hind Rajab Foundation has, among other things, filed a case with the ICC against 1,000 Israeli soldiers for war crimes in Gaza.

Finally good credible news that is only 15 months overdue. And from a journalist I (and everyone else) can trust!
I hope it works for everyone but especially for Palestinians who have suffered the most.

Not regretting my vote for him so far…

Trump says he will unleash hell on Hamas if Israeli hostages not released. A real peacemaker.
In poker this is called a bluff to win the pot.

;(
The price the Westbank, and maybe the Golan area, will have to pay for this "peace deal " will be very high and should surprise nobody
Thanks Jeremy. Was hoping for this kind of news soon.
