"Protecting youths from having their precious data harvested by China" so that Facebook and X have free reign. Oops, almost forgot the U.S. Government

Jessica, you are a National Treasure!!!

So the ‘Supreme Court’ has no understanding of the Constitution or the First Amendment. What a bunch of clowns; so all the president has to do is whip out the BS that it’s a ‘National Security’ concern and censor away.

National Security: blanket coverup of government crimes.

Sounds like what we hear about China, No?

Thank you for a thorough report. It might be good to follow this up with a piece on the amount of personal data that Meta, Google, et al have on most Americans and how they're using that data and whether any uses are restricted.

Lastly, is this decision an invitation for other countries to boot out Meta, Google, X and others from mining the personal data of their people?

Isn’t it ironic that the State Department will be allowed to use TikTok, but we, the huddled masses, will not? The fallout from 9/11 continues. A president can do almost anything by invoking the bogus claim of “a threat to national security”.

The governments around the world have to figure out how to clamp down, moderate, and suppress social media narratives which disturbs their comfort levels.

Tik Tok would not have been banned if it hadn’t spread awareness of USA sponsorship of genocide in Gaza, Palestine, to preserve our access to cheap oil for our supersizing SUVs endangered by the axis of resistance.

Yes! That part of the story is being kept well under wraps, even in "progressive" media. Our government's definition of "national security" has been expanded to include the protection it gives to Israel's on-going ethnic cleansing and land theft. Congress has already made it illegal for government contractors to practice their free-speech rights by joining the Israel boycott (BDS) movement. This is how our rights are being sacrificed to protect a genocidal, apartheid, ethno-supremacist state.

Lobbyists' greasing the palms of the corrupt parties to remove Meta's biggest competition are not impressing the adults.

The USA recently dropped ten spots to Nation #55 in freedom of press and access to information. Giving Meta free reign to rule over access to information on Facebook and allowing it presumed police powers that include unregulated freedom to harass and punish citizens by tracking them and using facial photos collected under false pretenses in cyber recognition should drop us another ten.

Meta now seems to be banning citizens' ability to communicate on Meta's Whats App for sharing credible information on Zuckerberg's social media platforms that he doesn't want citizens to see . With a domestic corporation acting as a sovereign nation presuming rights of governance, we needn't look to China to create any boogeymen.

A government that cares more about national security than campaign contributions would be busy breaking up Meta's monopoly rather than protecting Meta from competition.

This has all been so asinine. Trump started the whole TikTok ban issue in the fall of 2020. Then TikTok partnered with Oracle for cloud data storage and the issue went quiet. Then Biden resurrected the ban idea when he decided to provide material support for Israel's genocide which has been blasted on social media to the displeasure of the Administration. Then he signs a bill passed by our idiots in Congress banning TikTok while AT THE SAME TIME using it for the Biden and subsequent Harris campaigns.

I just can't stand it anymore!

Very few things could have made so apparent to the younger generation, just how deeply entrenched are the censorship tendencies of the US government. Way to go, guys. Own goal!!

FR, this who genocide saga has shined a bright spotlight on exactly how much the US media and government are trying to control what we're supposed to think. I've seen so much growth in followers on independent outlets and journalists since the genocide, then the election, then the United assassination... The government better pull back their dogs, or they're gonna have a full fledged revolt on their hands

And ironically so many media outlets are talking about how dangerous Red Note is due to Chinese censorship... The whole freaking reason people are there is US censorship 🙄

That our Congress would pass a law limiting our freedom of speech is disappointing, but not that surprising. That the Supreme Court upheld the law tells how far we have drifted into totalitarianism. Every American needs to find out if their representatives voted for this bill and if so, why?
