Clif, I agree that given where we are now, nothing but a revolution will straighten us out. And as you say, it might not. But I have to tell you that I'm 74, and I don't have any revolution left in me. It seems like too much of an uphill battle just to dismantle my house, pack it, find a place, sell my place, and move. But if the violent clown wins, I can't stay. Of course I don't trust the polls -- even the most esteemed pollsters say not to trust them -- but considering the difference between Harris and the clown, there should be a 30-40 point difference. And whatever difference there is, it should have gotten a lot larger after Sunday. (You can read my Substack post called "There Must Be a Strategy.") Harris wouldn't have been my first choice, but she and Walz have done a great job of campaigning, and they're a light year better than the clown and JD.

I think the fanatics have taken over here just as they have in Israel. I must say, though, that it was interesting and reassuring that the Georgia Supreme Court said no to gerrymandering, and Mark Robinson seems to be dead in the water. I wish I felt better about the prospect of being rid of Cruz, Hawley, Scott, and some of the others. I don't even feel confident that Greene and Boebert won't get elected. It's all very defeating. And it was made significantly more so when McConnell fucked up the SCOTUS. That has cost us a lot.

Fred, you and I are the same age.

Have you read "The Master Plan" (or listened as it is a series of podcasts) over at David Sirota's site called The Lever? It is a detailed account of how it is no accident that we are where we are today and it all started with a memo from Lewis Powell before he became a member of the SC back in the 1970's. No secret conspiracy, the details are on the record. This plan has realized all of the points Powell made in his memo written out of a fear for the future of capitalism. All the power of the wealthy and the right came together to make it happen. I subscribe to The Lever, but I believe The Master Plan is available for anyone to read/listen at https://the.levernews.com/master-plan/#about-1

Clif, I think I listened to one episode of it. I really like/liked "The Lever," and I think Sirota and Singh do a great job, but every post is just another example of the same problem: how money corrupts political functioning and this country. I already know that. Of course, "The Lever" is reporting, and it's not their job to make anything change (clearly, they want it to) but I need change. It doesn't do me any good to know that I have accurately identified the problem. And then, you get a president like Biden, who keeps backing Netanyahu, immediately after which he attends an AIPAC event, and an alternative choice like Harris, who says she wouldn't do anything different, and it's all very defeating and deflating. Maybe the young'uns will do something right, but I won't live that long.

No disagreement here, Fred, but I have to be able to both sleep at night and act for the good of my six grandkids who have no idea what they are in for. It's lonely standing out on the street with my signs promoting liberty and justice for all and being against Zionism, the exact opposite of what our Pledge of Allegiance asks us to be about. The craze for huge gasoline powered vehicles when global warming is advancing is yet another reason to despair about Americans being oblivious to what is going on, but I have to try. I will not be on the edge of my seat on Tuesday night as neither Harris or Trump represents the America that I do. I understand your view.
