There are always lots of denials and probably many claims that go through a denial process before being approved. Can imagine homocidal frustration from either of those. I don’t think we can imagine what could happen if people’s actual collective anger gets unleashed.
I haven’t heard anything about workers comp insurance denial of claims as being a problem. I only know of a few people who applied and got it without any issues. I wonder if it is something else completely unrelated to his job? That is where my mind goes.
Excellent reporting. Glad you are at drop site, these are the people you can learn from and who will trust and honor your work. And they are lucky to get you.
Threats of violence and actual violence are not uncommon with Workers Compensation claims. The anger is not always related to denials of specific treatments; there are also disputes over time-loss payments and cash payouts for residual impairment when a claim closes.
I recently retired as a nurse consultant at the WA state agency that manages WC claims. Armed state patrol officers were permanently stationed at the public entrance to the building, beginning sometime in the 80s or 90s, after a claims manager was shot dead by an angry claimant. During my 6 years at the dept, I was aware of several death threats to claims managers and/or the director.
A word of caution: While the rage at private health insurance companies and their CEOs is completely justified and the whole industry should be put out of business, we should not reflexively assume that EVERY denial is unjustified. Any healthcare system, including Medicare for All, will have evidence-based treatment guidelines determining when a procedure or treatment is medically necessary. Sometimes denial is appropriate.
I know for a fact insurance companies spend millions trying to defend and deny claims, unfortunately. Either way I see this kind of incidence as the natural outcome of obscene wealth. Mind you I do not condone such acts, but nevertheless feel obliged to offer one hypothesis of its origins.
More of this might occur as people are getting frustrated at either a lack of medical coverage or very little coverage, because the health Insurance industry and the workers comp industries are total scams. The way to stop the corruption in the workers comp Insurance Industry is to stop voting into office these criminals. The way to stop the corruption is not shooting people, it is voting them out of office. I know how frustrating it can be to be denied workers comp because the system is totally corrupt, I experienced this in Maine, where I could not get workers comp because the worker comp insurance company rigged the tests and their doctors rigged the reports.

Soon it will be a legitimate way to make an complaint.

You can bet the farm that right now, Jessica is doing a deep dive into this guy and the company. It's what she does, and she's damned good at it.
"The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest
Was the low spark of high-heeled boys."

People are dying by the millions all over the world so that a few can be rich. Their wealth is fueled by inhumanity and it's not OK.
