Yes, freedom to live in the land their descendants come from, freedom from occupation, violence, barbarism, cruelty inflicted on them by European invaders. Freedom to have their own ‘agency’.
This was a very well done interview. Very informative. And it presented the case of the Palestinian people very well. Mustafa Barghouti is always well informed and well spoken. I wish every American could hear this interview. By the way , my copy of the book "If I Must Die" by Refaat Alareer arrived last week. I have been reading it slowly. There is so much to feel and think about in Refaat's writing. More power to you. Looking forward to more reporting like this ✌️🇵🇸
Thank you Mr Barghouti for your contribution to this discussion it was insightful and powerful.I feel nothing but admiration for the strength and commitment of the Palestinian people to their independence despite the fact that they have been up against the most powerful nations in the world who appear to be too frightened to negotiate a humanitarian end to the genocide they have participated in for 76+ years. They are frightened because the Palestinian resistance is a global example that resistance does work when people are united in a common cause. The Palestinian example is one that will be remembered globally especially as we will all need the strength to oppose the already well advanced progress to fascism. I know of a family of 8 Palestinians who would like to leave Gaza and live elsewhere but have to pay US$ 5000 each just to get out, then they have to fund their living expenses and get approval to migrate to an Arab country. One of the family members is a teacher and a trader . He has a job offer in Kuwait that he cannot take up due to the conflict and the fact that he does not want to leave within all family members. Our Australian government .has been complicit in the actions taken by Israel and the US , which has been very disappointing to say the least.
I'm very sorry to hear that the Australian government has been complicit in this horrendous human tragedy. The only Western governments I am aware of that have pushed back are Ireland, Spain, and Belgium. The rest of the Western powers should be condemned by the ICC for participating in this genocide.
Just like the u.s. & israel, australia is a white supremacist state built on continuous genocide against the people who were living there before european colonizers arrived. Not sure why people would expect anything better from there.
Exactly. Although, I prefer settler colonialist, not because white supremacist isn't true, but because it is inaccurate. Many supporters of settler colonialism are not white, and many white people do not support settler colonialism. And, even settler colonialism obscures the real truth, that the war is actually by wealth and privilege waged against poor people they consider inferior. This explains Clarence Thomas, a black man of wealth and privilege in the US, clearly siding with the "white supremacists" against the poor of America.
Read Australian journalists John Lyons (Balcony over Jerusalem) and Antony Lowenstein (My Israel question, The Palestine Laboratory) to know the pro-Israel lobby is as strong or stronger in Australia than America. Aussies strongly believe in fairness and helped (eventually) break apartheid in South Africa. It's a multiracial society that has its problems but it is FAR more tolerant and cohesive than the US and most 'western' countries. Most politicians are cowering to Zionist 'victims' and Murdoch but informed Aussies are absolutely outraged by this genocide.
Barghouti correctly condemns the world community, in general, for its silence and aloofness vis-a-vis Israel's current genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. The context of their support for the dehumanization of the victims in lieu of the perpetrators is lacking.
As a teenager in the 1950s of the United States, I first heard the term "Fifth Column" circulating in the country as well as in Europe. It was attributed to the members of the Communist Party in both continents.
Today, it can be attributed to what Sen. Bernie Sanders calls "the global oligarchs". At least four of them appeared at Trump's inauguration. Global oligarchs possess extreme wealth and the desire to share power in a global government. The concept of a world government is present in Dante's "De Monarchia" (On the Monarchy) written in latin in 1313. His world government is one of peace and not of war.
Each national oligarch must seek to control the political, military and social elites of his country before participating in the world government. Its members are multinational. The more extreme wealth they amass, the greater the chance for a world government.
My opinion, hopefully to be somewhat verified.
I look forward to an article on today's Fifth Column.
The Palestinian issue will always and forever remain top of mind. It has no borders, no boundaries, just an outright cause of humanity.

Barghouti comes across as a real statesman. One can only hope that this horrible crisis will end with a just resolution!
The world needs to hear from Dr Bargouthi and other Palestinian politicians MUCH more often. Thank you all for a great interview.

You should print transcripts with these interviews.
They do. There's a "transcript" button just below the title of the piece.
