The fact that Colby articulates this -- "the ultimate question Americans want answered before the United States goes to war: How does this end?" -- is reason for hope.

That's a question none of the neocons running our present government have ever considered on the Ukraine war or the Gaza war, which have no end in sight despite untold amounts of death and desolation.

Colby's tempered views, his friendship with Mearsheimer, and his appointment despite pro-Israel opposition within Trump's circle, are all signs of hope. If Colby can get Trump to slow down the wars by simply not funding billions in arms to Israel and Ukraine, that would be a good start. More power to him.

I'm grateful for even this glimmer of hope.

The titles of Defense this or that....it does NOT seem to be about defense. It's all Offense. Who should we attack, what country deserves a regime change??..countries from which we need no defense.

I don't know for sure but it seems Mr Colby might revive the lost art of DIPLOMACY.

Why on earth do we have to tamp down any hint of problems for Israel because they can't behave? The only problem Israel has is it's refusal to live in Palestine with Palestinians.

They shove in the face of the whole world the misery they are inflicting the concentration camp of Gaza. Arresting and torturing surgeons!!

Iran does not pose a threat to Israel and certainly not to the USA.

The Arabs have oil. We certainly have had things they want. Like acceptance. Like Universities for their Princes...etc.

What! We have no bargaining powers?? Isn't that what Diplomacy is supposed to be about??

I feel sorry for intelligent young people who can see what a mess the USA is promising for their futures.

I'm grateful for any crumbs of common sense that might tumble off the Trump table. Looks like we're in for mighty slim pickings.

First we are presented with the reacquisition of the Panama Canal, buying Greenland and making Canada the 51st state. And then there is Elbridge Colby. I don’t know whether to be surprisingly hopeful in this one aspect or consider myself hopelessly naive. Anything other than the disgusting foreign policy of the Biden administration and its supporters in Congress might be considered a positive.

Trump promised chaos. But, no thanks to Genocide Joe. A President does not run the show.

Finally, a pretty sane view of what Nuclear Armageddon would look like (from a politico);

Think of Dante's circles of hell.

The first circle is 100 square miles of fire. The second is tornado and hurricane winds, the third is radiation killing...you get the idea.

The dufusses who think they can survive that above ground need to visit the Inferno.

It's immoral to even posses these weapons, the Pope says, and he is right.
